THE ONE AT 2:54 WITH FRIENDS

Definitely a female theme with this one...

First off 2 sisters, Hannah and Colette Thurlow, make up 2:54. The London duo apparently got their name from their favourite part of their favourite Melvins song and there certainly seems to be a grungy influence in their music. Latest single, Scarlet, is a dark, slightly sinister sounding one but so infectious. These girls have been described as "gloom-pop" and as we enter the dark, cold winter months, I see nothing more appropriate.

2:54 - SCARLET (OFFICIAL)

A quintet hailing from NYC! More particularly Brooklyn. Friends are a band of which made up of 5 friends (I know, the reason behind the name is quite mysterious...) led by a rather cool looking chick.

Samantha Urbani has enough style and swagger to represent even the most hipsterish parts of NYC and she does it well! To quote the lady herself she's "not just another girl". With a sound a bit like Lovefoxx from CSS and fellow Brooklyn girl Santigold, Samantha and her friends are set to create a mess of excitement with some good old fashioned, catchy indie-pop.

THE SPEAKER'S PLAYLIST

Designed to enthrall the ear, lavish the listener, inspire the individual. An attempt to condense the incondensable audio carnival. To stimulate long lasting musical longevity...the birth of the Speaker's Playlist...

Basically 40-odd minutes of great tunes, old, new, sometimes obscure but always awesome. Just press play and put it as loud as your surroundings will let you (maybe a little bit more) & see where it takes you.

Speaker Playlist #1

This first edition of SP kicks off with hairy Basque/Londoners Crystal Fighters followed by Le Corps Mince de Francoise, a Finnish band with a French name who sing in English. Amidst the electronical indieness Foster The People come out sounding like a Bee Gees/MGMT lovechild, Joe Goddard shows there is a fantastic sounding life outside of Hot Chip and Summer Camp's Elizabeth Sankey insists she is better off without an unfortunate fella. I think that she would be much better off after listening to this!

And after all this and more you should be too.

Tracklisting

Crystal Fighters - Solar System
Le Corps Mince de Francoise (LCMDF) - Take Me To The Mountains (Skeet Skeet Remix)
Foster The People - Houdini
Dutch Uncles - The Ink
Theophilus London - Love Is Real (Feat. Holly Miranda)
Summer Camp - Better Off Without You
SBTRKT - Wild Fire
Florence + The Machine - Shake It Out (The Weeknd Remix)
Joe Goddard - Gabriel (Feat. Valentina)
Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs - Garden

Ta very much...

Jxx

Jamie xx

He should just go ahead and remix the world.

This is a little session Jamie xx did for Fact Magazine earlier this month. Doesn't come with any tracklistings but I can hear a bit of Rhianna, FaltyDL's Hip Love, Burial, his stuff with Gil Scott-Heron, some of The xx and whatever the track is at 16.50 is epic!

This man seems to be all over the place. Due to release a remix a song of the latest Radiohead album and has even worked with Drake on his upcoming album. Not too keen on Drake, but everything Jamie xx touches turns to musical gold so I'll definitely be looking out for that.

Probably should see this guy live soon...

Update: For some reason FACT Magazine are not allowing any sort of sharing or embedding of Jamie xx's mix, however you can listen to it on their website which you can find here!!

RED ALERT

While politicians and governments bicker and squabble about the state of their countries and economic experts preach the doom and gloom of our existence, thank god there are some people who can come together from different parts of the world and create something for us to smile about.
I've always thought that musicians would make much better politicians than, um....politicians. You only have to spend 20 minutes at Glastonbury Festival to realise that music makes the world right....
CSS
Anyway, our international agenda sees São Paulo meeting New York City in the form of CSS & Ratatat and Toronto giving London an alternative idea as The Weeknd paints his slightly weird, left-of-centre brush of R&B over Florence + The Machine's latest banger (This got it's first play in the world ever yesterday!).

CSS - Red Alert (Feat. Ratatat)

Florence + The Machine - Shake It Out (The Weeknd Remix)

Ed Sheeran
The Ed Sheeran mania is in full swing in the UK, the young lovable red-headed lad was top of the charts and busy playing everywhere and anywhere he can, this remix of 'The A Team' sees Koan Sound turning a beautifully sad acoustic song into a mellow electronic gem.

Carrying on with the mellow theme is a song from the depths. Back before anyone realised who The xx were (let alone a lanky, moppy haired Jamie xx) Jamie xx put out a remix of The xx's cover of Aalyiah's 'Hot Like Fire' back in 2009. It was an very early sign of what was coming: nostalgic, dreamy, and certainly bassy, the man has his trademark and it's incredible. This song is particularly hard to find on its own as its part of a mix that The xx did for Fact Magazine, but the whole mix is worth a listen.

Should be nicely in the mood for a nap right now,

Enjoy....

GOOD MORNING...

So first off, I would like to welcome you to the most magnificent man, with the most epic stage name of recent years....TOTALLY ENORMOUS EXTINCT DINOSAURS (aka Orlando Higgingbottom...equally awesome name). A mass favourite who finally has announced an album for early 2012...first album of that new year I cannot wait for...!!!!! I only hope that when I next see Orlando in a huge venue he remembers Scooby Doo and his crew raving at the front like there was no tomorrow (thanks for that Camden Crawl 2011 TEED)

TEED

So after that wake up call, Bombay Bicycle Club will ease you into the day with 'How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep' while Bon Iver & James Blake combine their ridiculous talents together to make the most "let's SNOOZE for longer" track ever  'Fall Creek Boys Choir' (a song between these two was inevitable and equally stunning). But then just as you wanted to fall back asleep, CSS decided to remix an already upbeat Givers song into a let's-all-get-up-and-dance-our-socks-off jam....the only way Lovefoxx and the rest of her Brazilian crew know how to do....

How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep Bon Iver & James Blake - 'Fall Creek Boy's Choir'

Givers - 'Up Up Up' (CSS remix)

good morning.....
p.s. teed shows you how to wake up....
